Printhead Alignment
MaintenanceDefinition
A calibration process that ensures all printheads are precisely aligned relative to each other for accurate color registration and sharp output.
In-Depth Explanation
Printhead alignment should be performed after installing new printheads, after a printer move, or when print quality shows signs of misregistration (colored halos around text, fuzzy edges). The alignment process prints a test pattern that the printer's optical sensor reads to calculate correction values. Both bidirectional alignment (for speed) and color-to-color alignment are typically performed.
