Bi-directional Printing

Print Settings

Definition

A print mode where the printhead deposits ink in both directions of travel (left-to-right and right-to-left), doubling print speed compared to uni-directional printing.

In-Depth Explanation

Bi-directional printing is faster but can sometimes show slight alignment artifacts if the printhead alignment is not perfect. For the highest quality output, uni-directional printing (ink deposited in only one direction) is preferred, though it takes roughly twice as long. Most DesignJet print modes use bi-directional printing by default, with uni-directional reserved for 'Best' quality settings.
