Degassing
Ink SystemDefinition
The process of removing dissolved air from ink before it reaches the printheads. Air bubbles in ink can cause nozzle misfires and print quality issues.
In-Depth Explanation
DesignJet printers include degassing systems as part of their ink delivery path. When new ink cartridges are installed, the printer runs a degassing cycle to remove air that may have been introduced. If the degassing system malfunctions, it can cause intermittent print quality issues that are difficult to diagnose. Symptoms include random white lines, missing dots, and inconsistent color density.
